Anthropic Files to Go Public and Its Numbers Answer the AI Bubble Question
Anthropic filed its S 1 to list on Nasdaq as ANT, reporting $16.3 billion in first half revenue, a profitable June quarter on an operating basis, and $417 billion in future obligations.

The filing everyone was waiting for
The loudest argument against the AI boom has been simple: the money going in is real, but the business underneath it might not be. Anthropic just gave the public its first full look at that business. The company filed its S 1 to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, as The Rundown AI, Morning Brew, and The Hustle all reported on the same morning.
The headline number is growth. Revenue reached $16.3 billion in the first six months of 2026, about 14 times the figure from a year earlier. Morning Brew notes that revenue is also less concentrated in a few large customers than many analysts expected.
Profit in one column, a giant loss in another
Read the filing carefully and you will find two true stories at once. The Rundown reports that the June quarter alone produced a $974 million operating profit. The Neuron, citing the same filing through AP coverage, reports an $80.75 billion net loss for the first half, including a one time accounting charge of about $72.4 billion.
Those numbers are not the same measure. Operating results show what the day to day business did in one strong quarter. The net loss shows what accounting rules do to a company carrying complex structures into a public listing. Anyone quoting only one number is selling a mood, not a picture.
Most of the money is still in the bank
The Rundown adds a detail that surprised even skeptics. Anthropic has raised about $141 billion to date and still holds roughly $132 billion of it. By that math, the company has spent a net of about $9.4 billion to build a business now producing billions in quarterly revenue.
Morning Brew balances that picture with the other side of the ledger. Anthropic is on the hook for about $417 billion in contractual obligations to vendors such as data center operators. The cash pile is large because the commitments ahead of it are enormous.
A structure built around the mission
The filing also shows how unusual the ownership remains. All seven cofounders have pledged 80 percent of their stakes to charity, according to The Rundown. The board can direct additional shares to its Public Benefit Fund as the stock climbs, and Morning Brew reports that financially disinterested trustees focused on safety will oversee board appointments while the cofounders keep control of key decisions.
Critics told Morning Brew that this structure concentrates control with management at the expense of shareholders. Either way, investors are asked to buy into a business that says, in writing, that safety governance outranks ordinary shareholder control.
Ninety four pages of warnings
Anthropic devoted about 94 pages of the filing to risks, Morning Brew reports. The list runs from customer lawsuits over access to its most capable models to government restrictions and the difficulty of predicting demand when planning infrastructure spending.
The Rundown highlights the most striking warning. Anthropic said some internal work run by Claude could grow difficult for humans to understand and control. The same filing says Claude wrote over 90 percent of Anthropic code in September, and staff use of Claude, valued at retail prices, first passed monthly cash payroll in April.
What this means if you build with AI
Analysts cited by Morning Brew believe Anthropic could raise up to $100 billion, which would place the offering among the largest in history. For creators and small operators, the valuation is not the useful part. The useful part is what the filing proves about demand.
Customers are paying frontier labs at a scale that produced $16.3 billion in six months. The tools you rent sit on top of that demand, and their prices and limits will keep moving as this business goes public. Build your workflow so a model or a price can change without breaking your whole operation.
