Anyone Can Now Scan Your Content for AI Watermarks
Google just opened its SynthID Detector to everyone. Anyone can now scan a photo, a video, or an audio clip and check whether AI made it. Here is what that means for creators who publish AI work.

What Google just shipped

The Rundown AI reported this week that Google has rolled its SynthID Detector out worldwide. The tool lets anyone scan images, video, and audio for the invisible watermarks that AI generators leave behind, including watermarks from partners like OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao.
Until now, provenance checks lived mostly inside platforms and labs. Now the check is public. A client, a brand, a festival judge, or a competitor can run your content through a detector before they ever talk to you.

Why this matters more than you think
AI content is not the problem. Undisclosed AI content is. Brands are writing AI clauses into contracts, platforms are labeling synthetic media, and audiences are getting sharper about spotting it. The creators who get hurt are the ones who pretend.
There is also a flip side nobody talks about. A detector protects honest creators too. When your filmed work gets accused of being AI, or your AI work gets accused of being stolen footage, a watermark trail and a clean paper trail settle the argument fast.
What I am doing about it

My rule on every AI assisted deliverable is simple: label it, document it, and keep the project files. When a client buys an AI film or an AI reel from me, they know exactly what was generated, what was filmed, and what was edited by hand. That clarity is part of the product.
If you publish AI video, build the same habit. Save your prompts and project files. Note which shots are generated. Tell the client up front. The detector era rewards the creators who were honest before anyone checked.
Your move
Assume everything you publish can be scanned, because now it can. Run your own content through the detector before a client does. Keep your source files organized. And put your disclosure in writing, in the contract and in the caption, so nobody has to guess.
Transparency is about to become a selling point. The creators who treat it that way will win the brand deals everyone else loses.
