She Stopped Teaching Therapists Marketing and Built a 2 Million Dollar Agency Doing It for Them
Becky DeGrossa taught therapists how to get clients online. Her students wanted the results without the homework, so she built CounselingWise, a done for you marketing agency for therapists that reached 2 million dollars in revenue by June 2026.

Twenty years at IBM, then therapy
Becky DeGrossa had the career most people would keep. A computer science degree, 20 years at IBM, and a managing principal role. By 2003 she realized the part of the job that energized her most was helping people solve problems, so she left, went back to school, and spent 2003 to 2006 earning a masters degree in psychology. Then she started seeing therapy clients.
A new career came with a familiar problem. Nobody hands you a line of paying customers with a diploma. Being good at the work and getting people to find you are two different skills. DeGrossa had the qualifications and a service people needed, but not enough people discovering her online. So she learned copywriting, local search, and search engine optimization, applied it to her own practice, and her phone began ringing more often.
Her students wanted no lesson
When her marketing methods worked, DeGrossa started teaching small classes in her office, showing fellow therapists how to improve websites and make their practices easier to find online. Useful information, exactly what her students needed.
Except they did not rush home to implement it. They wanted clients and ringing phones. Learning search optimization and writing website copy was work they did not want. Most people would have seen unmotivated students. DeGrossa saw customers. They did not need another teacher. They needed someone to take the work off their hands.
Done for you won
That distinction became CounselingWise. Instead of selling instructions, DeGrossa offered to handle the marketing herself: website development, content writing, Google Business Profile optimization, and advertising. According to her account, roughly 99 percent of revenue now comes from doing the work rather than teaching it.
She also made a second smart choice. She focused only on therapists. A therapist website needs to communicate trust, professionalism, and empathy to someone who may already be struggling, not just generate clicks. Specialization made the business easier to explain, market, and recommend.
A service became a firm
There is a large gap between freelancing and building a company. One person cannot write every website, manage every advertisement, and answer every client email forever. Demand grew enough that DeGrossa closed her therapy practice, giving clients six months notice, and began building a team.
CounselingWise now reportedly works with approximately 40 to 50 contractors covering writing, technical marketing, and project management. One hiring priority stands out. DeGrossa values people skills, because a beautiful website will not save a relationship if the customer feels ignored.
The revenue headline, honestly
DeGrossa says CounselingWise has generated seven figure revenue since 2022 and reached 2 million dollars in revenue by June 2026, with approximately 300,000 dollars in annual profit in each of the previous five years. That is also a reminder that revenue is not take home pay. An agency with dozens of contractors has plenty of expenses.
The story is not about pressing a button and watching passive income arrive. It is about recognizing demand, building systems, and delivering a service customers continue to need. Search marketing never stands still, so a company that tests and adapts beats one built around a single trick.
Find work people hand off
You do not need to become a therapist to use this lesson. Find a group with the same recurring problem, then ask what necessary task they keep postponing:
- Ask what they should be doing for their business but keep putting off, and what happens when it does not get done
- Ask whether they would pay someone to handle it properly
- Sell one specific result, such as updating a Google Business Profile and main service pages, not a vague revolution
- Deliver manually first, track time and cost, and document the steps only after several customers pay
- Check the math: a 2,000 dollar website that costs 1,700 dollars to deliver leaves little room, while one delivered for 700 dollars changes the business
