Your AI Assistant Just Became a Model Picker

Elon Musk just announced that Grok Bot will send tasks to rival AI models like Claude and Midjourney, picking whichever is most likely to nail the job. The one model era is ending. Here is the creator playbook.

What Musk actually announced

One assistant in front. Many models behind it.

The Rundown AI covered the announcement this week: SpaceXAI's Grok Bot agent platform will route tasks to rival models, including Anthropic's Claude for reasoning work and Midjourney for images. Musk's own framing was that it will route to whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.

Simple questions will still run on a fast version of Grok. The harder or more specialized work gets handed to whichever outside model or leading API fits the job. Read that again. One of the richest model builders on earth just told his own assistant to use the competition when the competition is better.

Why this is a bigger deal than it looks

For two years, creators have been told to pick a side: one chatbot, one image model, one subscription. Routing kills that loyalty test. The assistant becomes a dispatcher, and the models become specialists competing job by job.

It also changes what you are paying for. You stop buying a model and start buying outcomes. The person who wins is not the one with the strongest single tool. It is the one who knows which tool fits which job, and can prove it with finished work.

Directing models is the job now. Picking one forever is not.

This is already how I run productions. One model drafts the script pass, another handles the image look, a third cuts the routine work down to size, and a human directs all of it. The Haiku playbook I published this week is the same pattern at a smaller scale: a strong model directs, a fast model executes.

Build your own routing table. Which model writes your best captions? Which one makes your best images? Which one do you trust with client facing copy? Write it down, test it monthly, and stop apologizing for using more than one tool.

Your move

Audit your stack this week. List every AI task in your business, name the model that does it best today, and mark the ones you have never tested anywhere else. Then test one swap. Routing is not a feature announcement. It is the new default, and the creators who direct the models will beat the creators who marry one.
